Why didn't we think of this sooner? It was great fun with exceptional company

willing to part with them.)
Attending were: Pat Arnold, Frank and Julie Baird, Martin Bauer, Karla Mundt,
Cathy and Dan Brewster, Laurie Chappelle, Linda Gross, Cherie Egger, Bob and
Hatch Fry, John Goodnight, Marilyn Hadley, Dennis and Susan Hoorn, Fr. Jim and

Let's Have an Adventure
This is what is planned to take place following the Soup Suppers during the
Lenten Season beginning March 2 and each Tuesday evening through March 30,
6:30-7:30 p.m. Dr. Don Kintner will present the values learned from his most
recent research in Christian Philosophy.
The plan is for each of us present to learn how to feel joyful for the rest of
our life, to feel the peace and freedom that is nearly indescribable, and to get
rid of our anxieties and frustrations forever. This can actually happen as it
has at other gatherings where this program has been presented. So plan to join
us, it will be an exciting and life-changing experience. This is God's plan for
each of us. Don't miss it and we'll be ready for a glorious celebration on
Easter Sunday.
Church School
Our next Children's Offertory will be held on March 7 at the 9:00 a.m. service.
"Oodles of Noodles" is our theme this month, however, the children are invited
to bring any offering of their choosing to the altar. Thanks to everyone who
participated in last month's offertory — we received several donations of
clothing and children's toys.
Jackie Oaks, of Tiny Tots at Trinity, has created an exciting program for all of
the families at Trinity. This Lenten Season, during our Lenten Soup Suppers,
parents and children alike are invited to participate in a wonderful family
event that brings everyone together for an educational family experience. Please
see the Tiny Tots section of our newsletter on Page 5 to get all of the
necessary details and come and join us each Tuesday evening for our Lenten Soup
Suppers. This is a fantastic event for all of the families here at Trinity.
Easter is coming and the children will be looking forward to our annual Easter
Breakfast and Egg Hunt, which will be held on April 10. Please start collecting
those plastic eggs and jellybeans for this festive gathering. More news about
this celebration will be coming out in the next few weeks. Just check with us
down in the crypt of the church any Sunday.
God Bless, Elizabeth Bedell
Youth Group
Youth Update Header
The Trinity Youth Group is trying some new things. HSYG (High School Youth
Group) will be meeting on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. We hope this time change will
work better with our high schoolers difficult schedules. Our youth events for
March are being hosted by individuals in our youth group. Creed Anderson and
Deby Gutual will be hosting an outreach soup kitchen day and Dylan Towner and
Dinahrie Gutual will be hosting an evening for babies. Read on for details
submitted by these teens. If you aren't involved in youth group and would like
to be contacted, let us know. We'll be more than happy to take the time to talk
to you. Have a lucky March!
Heather Dornoff
Greetings Trinity Parishioners
A few of us from Trinity's youth group have decided to do some outreach
volunteering. Two of us have decided to help out at the soup kitchen in any way
that we can — serving, cleaning, etc. Here is where you can help. On Sunday
March 14 and March 21 we will be holding a canned food drive to donate to the
soup kitchen. We would appreciate it very much if you could donate
non-perishable items on the given dates. Thank you and we hope to see you on
those Sundays with generosity in hand.
Creed Anderson & Deby Gutual
Gerber Baby Food Drive/Baby Bundles
The youth group is going to have a baby bundle drive. We will also be having a
Gerber baby food drive Sunday the 21st. For baby bundles we would like fellow
church members to bring baby clothes, bottles, diapers, and the usual items
babies need. The Gerber baby food drive is to help those babies that don't have
them. Please help these babies and bring any items that will be useful. Thank
You
TEC Update
The TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) weekend will be Friday thru Sunday, April
23-25. This years' TEC needs much help from Trinity. The egg trees will be up
this month. Take an egg with a needed item written on it and bring the item to
church the following Sunday. Volunteer sign-ups will begin this month. Please
keep your hearts and schedules open for this weekend to be successful. TEC is a
vital part of the health of the youth in our Diocese. Trinity and the northern
Nevada churches will be grateful for your love and support. Do you know any
teens who would be interested in attending TEC? Please contact Heather for an
application or discussion at the Parish Office.

The IHN Team is quickly approaching our 2004 first hosting week, which will
begin on February 29. As of this writing we don't know how many families we will
be hosting. What we do know is there will be parents with children who were it
not for the loving and giving members of our IHN organization would be living in
a car or a motel or even worse, on the street with very little prospect of a
future. Instead, our Trinity family will be supported by the congregation of Our
Savior Lutheran and will open our Parish Hall to furnish beds, meals and as much
comfort and friendship as possible to these families in an effort to bring them
hope and strength. I know that our Team is extraordinarily proud of what we do
and how we do it. If you are at all interested in becoming a member of this
organization, just give any one of us a call. Even if you are not sure how you
might be able to help and would like to come and join us for dinner one night to
meet the people involved, that would be a great way to take a first step in
finding out what a truly rewarding program IHN is. We sure hope you will give us
some consideration.
Due to a lot of activities taking place at Trinity this spring, our normal
nine-week rotation for IHN hosting had to be changed and the original date moved
significantly up. We are now going to have our second 2004 hosting week
scheduled beginning Easter Sunday, April 11. While that does only give us five
weeks between our first two hosting weeks, that should then give us a nice rest
before our third hosting week (approximately 14 weeks _ schedules are still
being firmed up by the IHN Board). So please check your calendars and plan your
schedules accordingly. Remember, we are ALWAYS short handed for overnight hosts
and are extremely appreciative when you are willing to commit your time for that
assignment.
Some other exciting news . . . please put March 26 on your calendars. IHN is
having a Mystery Dinner that will be held at Whitehead Elementary School. The
tickets will be $25.00 each and seating is limited to 200. Contact either Kathi
Smith or Nola Jones regarding ticket purchases. This is an important fundraiser
for IHN and the planning looks to make this a really fun early evening event for
the whole family.
IHN volunteers are the BEST. And Trinity IHN volunteers are the BEST. It's a
great thing to be one of the BEST. We hope you'll join us and make a difference
in the lives of people because you will find they will make a difference in your
life too . . . a Better Difference.
The Team:
Kathi Testa-Smith, 333-1084
Nola Jones, 323-1689
Barbara Marquand, 825-6539
Eleanor Hagler, 827-3425
Host Families Needed
The Northern Nevada International Center needs volunteer host families for five
business professionals from Kurgan, Russia who will be in Reno/Sparks from March
2 to April 2 as participants of Community Connections/Business for Russia, a
program of the U. S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural
Affairs. The program brings owners/managers of private enterprises in Russia and
the NIS to the United States to intern with businesses similar to their own in
order to learn about American business methods and practices. The participants
live with volunteer hosts (families or individuals) giving them an opportunity
to experience first-hand what American life and culture are like.
Host families are asked to provide a private room for their guest as well as
breakfast and dinner and the opportunity to participate in American family life
and activities. Help with transportation to and from the participant's workplace
is appreciated but not required. Each Russian participant will be provided with
a stipend of $25.00 per day to cover lunches and incidentals.
If you or someone you know would like to host a Russian visitor, please contact:
Debbie Chase, Community Connections Program Coordinator Northern Nevada
International Center, 821 N. Center Street, Reno NV 89501. Phone: 784-7515,

Noble.
A Note from the Campus Christian Association
We have received your checks of $100.00 each on November 13, December l6 and
January 14. Their
regularity and your generosity continue to be a great comfort to us as we
continue our work of providing campus ministry to the students, faculty, and
staff of the University of Nevada, Reno. If you've driven by, you might have
noticed that we had our roof re-done and the house-painting project is almost
completed. It feels good to be spruced up a bit. We have a new set of fliers
going up around campus and in the residence halls, each one prominently features
the logo of each of the denominations which support CCA. I'm hoping this will
help us `smoke-out' the mainline Protestant students who are on campus.
Sincerely, Ruth Hanusa, Campus Minister
From the Music Department . . .
Music Notes in Lent . . . The music department has many offerings to enrich your
family's Lenten journey this year.
The most unusual, a first of its kind for us, will be a Sunday afternoon
Festival of Hymns on Sunday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m. Members of Trinity's choir and
choirs from about a half-dozen other Reno area churches will sing their way
through all the seasons of the Christian year, from Advent through Christmas,
Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. Scripture readings, appropriate to each
of the seasons, will alternate with wonderful hymn arrangements by Chicago area
composer Richard Webster, who is coming to Reno to conduct the music.
You have heard Richard's splendid arrangements on previous Easter mornings and
in our Christmas Eve worship for many years. Six talented brass musicians will
augment our choir on March 7 and I'll be at the console of our Casavant organ.
The choir members will rehearse the difficult verses the day before. Your
privilege as a member of the congregation will be to sing some of your
best-loved hymns and enjoy the thrilling sound of brass, organ, and choirs
adding to your own voice!
The event is being sponsored by the American Guild of Organists Northern Nevada
chapter, and is free of charge.
Our Friday noon Pipes and Praises organ recitals continue through Lent. And on
Wednesdays there will be twenty-minute organ meditations preceding the 12:10
p.m. Eucharist. May these occasions for worship in music be a blessing to you.
Sincerely, Art Johnson
Parish Library/Spiritual Research and Development Center
Recent additions to our Library include:
The Rebirth of Orthodoxy by Thomas Oden, contributed by Cynthia Kase;
The Bible on CD , `a dramatic, multi-voice recording,' given in memory of Sally
Steinfeld;
The Best of the Word for Today by Bob Goss, a daily devotional, given by Norm &
Mary Novello.
In addition, Librarian Charlie Conroy has identified some books he would like to
acquire for the stacks (some of you might be willing to buy one, read and then
donate it). The authors include Barbara Brown Taylor (named one of the ten
outstanding preachers in the country, from whom your rector steals on occasion);
Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury; and a guide to understanding
Lutherans and Episcopalians Together, co-authored by one from each tradition.

open to having church visitors which is due to a change from a more restrictive
policy. It would be quite helpful, however, to let the parish office know when
someone enters from Trinity or who desires a Trinity caller. Routine hospital
visits simply to check and see who's there are not the best use of staff time.
