Originally,200 Island Avenue was the site of one of Reno’s livery stables. The Vestry of Trinity Church purchased the site in 1923, settled upon a design, and built the lower part of the church now known as the Crypt. It was completed in 1929. The original plan was to complete the upper portion as soon as funds could be raised. The Great Depression and World War II changed the plan, however,, and the Crypt served as the church, Sunday school classrooms, parish hall, and church offices until the end of the war. The main church was dedicated in 1949. The parish hall was built in 1958 and completed the campus as we know it today.
Notable additions to the church include adding a 32 bell carillon in 1972. It was recently updated with the installation of a state-of-the-art control unit which includes the entire Episcopal hymnnal. A complete rebuild of the Crypt following the 1997 Truckee river flood made it into the modern educational facility it is today. The 37-rank Casavant pipe organ was dedicated in 1999.
